Toyota has announced official pricing for the five (!) trim levels for the 2010 Prius, due to hit dealers in the States sometime in late May. The bare-bones version (which must be pretty bare, since Toyota hasn’t divulged what’s included) will be just $21,000. On the other end of the spectrum, the top trim level starts at $27,270 (add $750 to both prices for delivery), and the most you can pay for the new Prius this spring will be $32,520 for the V trim equipped with the Advanced Technology Package (ATP). Full details are available after the jump, but note that you can’t get the ATP, which includes the Dynamic Radar Cruise Control, the Pre-Collision System, Lane Keep Assist, and Intelligent Parking Assist, if you want the solar roof option.

As mentioned earlier, the $21,000 base price is important, since it is only $1,200 more than the new Honda Insight. The current, second-generation Prius starts at $22,000. For more on the third-generation Prius get the info overload and check out our First Drive.

Haima Fushida, a joint venture between FAW and Mazda, has followed up its Fstar EV released at last year’s Beijing Motor Show with this, the Me EV. According to the automaker, the Me features a set of high-performance brushless motors and a choice of two lithium-ion battery packs that can power the lil’ tangerine EV between 100 and 120 miles and on to a top-speed of either 50 or 75 mph, respectively. A 220-volt power supply can supposedly recharge the Me in around four hours, and if it reaches production, the urban runabout with seating for two could be credible option for navigating Shanghai’s increasing congested byways.

Natural Born Winner: VW returns to the ‘Ring with Scirocco GT24-CNG

Volkswagen Scirocco GT24-CNG - Click above for a hi-res gallery

Phase 1: Dominate your class in endurance racing. Phase 2: Continue to dominate your class in endurance racing, only this time do it without gasoline. That seems to be the game plan with the Volkswagen Group’s racing programs, so after winning at Le Mans five times with the gasoline-powered Audi R8 racer (punctuated only by the victory of sister-company Bentley’s Ingolstadt-supported Speed 8), Audi continued its dominance with the diesel-powered R10 TDI. (It’s worth noting that SEAT managed to clinch the 2008 World Touring Car Championship with a diesel-burning Leon TDI, too.) Meanwhile, over at the Nürburgring, Volkswagen itself took a devastating one-two class victory at last year’s 24-hour race with the Scirocco GT24. So what’s the next step? Compressed Natural Gas. That’s what Volkswagen will be pumping into its latest race-prepped Scirocco as the team attempts to prove once again that it can win - even dominate - while burning alternative fuels.

The new Scirocco GT24-CNG uses the same basic architecture as the last year’s car, but with the aid of Compressed Natural Gas, delivers 300 horsepower while returning a 25% improvement in emissions. VW will be campaigning a pair of them at the race in late May in the 2-liter turbocharged category, where they’ll be facing off against the new Subaru Impreza STI, among others. Will Wolfsburg be able to follow up on last year’s victory using alternative fuels? Only time will tell, but the team will also be campaigning three additional gasoline-powered Sciroccos…you know, just in case. Details in the press release after the jump and photos in the gallery below.

Biofuel Skycar headed for production in 2010

Parajet Skycar prototypes - Click above for high-res image gallery

Earlier this year, the Parajet Skycar Expedition, featuring the “World’s First Bio-fuelled Flying Car,” flew from London, England to Timbuktu in Mali, Africa. If you lusted over something so incredibly cool - a car that can transform from ground to air mode in about three minutes and actually works in both areas, then we’ve got good news for you: Parajet International Ltd has struck a deal to produce road-legal SkyCars with Rage Motorsport Ltd.

Rage will build the vehicle and Parajet will add all the parts that make it fly. A mock-up of the vehicle is pictured here, but Parajet says a “totally new chassis is being designed for the SkyCar which accommodates the rear fan system into the tubular chassis work.” This will reduce weight by about 80 kg (176 lbs). Other changes are to include a re-positioned rear parachute, more legroom and a three-cylinder, 140 horsepower fuel-injected Yamaha engine. How long will you have to wait for one? Parajet says test flights of the skycar should happen this September and the release date could be early 2010.

Watch a CNN-produced video of the Skycar in action after the jump.
